Our event was a success!
In collaboration with UNLEASH and the Young Impactmakers, our Beach Cleanup and Yoga Flow Event, took place last Saturday on the beach of Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands. With a group of approximately 25+ volunteers, we gathered at beach pavilion, Timboektoe, for a day to commemorate sustainability and mindfulness.
Participants enjoy a morning Vinyasa session provided by yoga instructor, Hannah Ray, to kick off the event.
Following the yoga session, participants broke off into groups, targeting different parts of the beach including the surrounding dunes, jetty and shoreline along the Dutch North Sea.
In only 30 minutes, we were able to collect 37.5 kgs (83 lbs) of plastic waste!! A great achievement! We found fishing nets, old gloves, paper towels and a lot of micro plastics including cigarette butts.
We rounded off the day with expert talks on plastic pollution alongside drinks and snacks.
Sea Going Green’s very own CEO Ally Dragozet explained the impact of littered plastic on marine life and Karl Beerenfenger, initiator of the Plastic Peuken Collectief, gave us a real life example of how his grassroots movement is aiming to achieve a ban on the plastic cigarette filter.
Sandy Reitsma closed off the expert talks by introducing the Young Impactmakers community which organizes events around sustainability and impactful careers, bringing together talented young people who want to do good while doing business, either by starting their very own impact business or by collaborating with organizations, working towards a better world.
Feeling inspired, participants ended the session with networking with the speakers and other attendees.
On behalf of the Sea Going Green team, we want to give a big thank you to everyone who joined us on this lovely day. You can proudly say that you’ve successfully contributed to supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water! 🐳
